The Ceilings: Before and After

The very first project that we completed in our new house was a total ceiling makeover. If there is one thing we hate, it's popcorn ceilings. Take a look at what we were dealing with:

They weren't just 'popcorn', they had some crazy star pattern! Aside from the texture issue, there were also a few lighting problems that we wanted to take care of. You know, since we were ripping the ceiling out and all.

The best part about ceilings is that they require really funny tools/equipment. Check out drywall hoist:

And of course, the infamous stilts:

First step is to rip out the old ceilings. We only ripped out the downstairs drywall and upstairs we just laid new sheetrock over the existing one. Demolition is messy. If you've encountered drywall dust then you know what I'm talking about!

Here you can see the new recessed lighting we decided to install:

Don't forget the debris. Thank god we have a trailer (even though its the ugliest trailer ever).

After all that mess and hard work, here is the end result:

In every shower (we have three), we decided to install a light directly above the tub. It definitely throws our guests off, but once you live with it, you can't live without it!

By far, the ceiling re-do was the hardest, messiest thing we've worked on to date. Was it worth it? Yes, but just make sure you reallllly hate popcorn before starting something like this. Of course we are extra lucky that Brian even knows how to do all this stuff.
